However, hopefully you will find this report interesting and will take the time to look through this to see if you can improve the amount of aggregation you perform. The report is split into sections: 0) General Status List the route table history for the last week, list any possibly bogus routes seen and give some status on ASes. 1) Gains by aggregating at the origin AS level This lists the "Top 30" players who if they decided to aggregate their announced classful prefixes at the origin AS level could make a significant difference in the reduction of the current size of the Internet routing table. This calculation does not take into account the inclusion of holes when forming an aggregate so it is possible even larger reduction should be possible. 2) Weekly Delta A summary of the last weeks changes in terms of withdrawn and added routes. Please note that this is only a snapshot but does give some indication of ASes participating in CIDR. Clearly, it is generally a good thing to see a large amont of withdrawls. 3) Interesting aggregates Interesting here means not an aggregate made as a set of classful routes. Thanks to xara.net for giving me access to their routing tables once a day. Please send any comments about this report directly to me. Check http://www.employees.org/~tbates/cidr-report.html for a daily update of this report. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CIDR REPORT for 04May01 0) General Status Table History ------------- Date Prefixes 270401 100797 280401 102051 290401 102329 300401 102763 010501 103252 020501 104027 030501 104798 040501 104512 Check http://www.employees.org/~tbates/cidr.plot.html for a plot of the table history. The RIPE NCC is currently starting to make allocations primarily from 80/8. The minimum allocation size made by the RIPE NCC in these address blocks is a /20. ** If you use prefix based filtering in your routers, please note this change ** This has been announced previously but may not have reached all affected parties. We sincerely apologise for this. In order to correct long-standing issues with the data in the zone file, new software is being deployed. ARIN policy states that allocation subscribers with networks of /16 or shorter prefix are responsible for maintaining all in-addr.arpa domain records for reassignments within the block. They must also provide to ARIN the host names of the nameservers hosting any delegations. ARIN will continue to host domain records for delegations of networks with prefixes longer than /16. The in-addr.arpa zone will contain delegations for any /8 containing nameservers within ARIN's database. For address space not covered via these delegations, the in-addr.arpa domain will contain delegations for /16's with nameservers. For address space still not delegated and as mentioned above, the in-addr.arpa domain will contain delegations of /24's for networks longer than a /16 containing in-addr nameservers. In all cases, the most specific reassignment with nameservers at each octet boundary will prevail. ARIN is making every effort to ensure that any impact from these changes will not disrupt in-addr.arpa name services. If you have concerns whether in-addr.arpa name services will be impacted for your networks, please review examples of the changes to occur at: http://www.arin.net/inaddr/inaddr-examples.txt If you still have concerns after reviewing these examples, please direct specific questions about your networks to inaddr@arin.net. We have tentatively scheduled implementation of the new process for late May or early June. A specific date will be announced several days prior to the cut-over on both the arin-announce and nanog mailing lists. Internet Multifeed's vision of a "distributed IX service" offering "ISPs a free choice of interfaces" is scheduled for 2002. What technology will the photonic IX service use? The trial service seems to have been up since January 2001 and commercial service seems to have started in April 2001. Is there any feedback from participants? Is anybody using "multifeed systems" or "multifeed technology" and, if so, what do those vague terms refer to?
