The problem arose at 6 pm local time on Wednesday 20 June and full service was restored by 3 pm local time on Thursday 21 June. Email, ftp, www and DNS services were adversely affected. Emergency backup procedures were implemented, restoring DNS and limited web and email services by 3 am on Thursday 21 June. The ftp service was not available during the service failure. Unfortunately the outage extended beyond some critical timeout windows and in some cases email for lists will have bounced. Some of you may have received warnings, but all emails will now have been delivered correctly. Full service has now been restored and we are actively reviewing our service and systems strategies so as to avoid this kind of service failure in future. Please accept APNIC's apologies for the loss of facilities and for any inconvenience caused. Jun 2001 - Released a new IN-ADDR.ARPA zone file generator to correct existing erroneous data. This meeting is now open to everyone, not closed within NIR people. In this meeting various things on NIR, e.g. operations, allocation practice and membership. As you know NIR - National Internet Registry is APNIC's original scheme that covers a certain nation between APNIC and LIRs. It works well for non Engilsh speaking countries and reduce the burden of APNIC, but on the other hand it is a special membership category and difficult to handle with ordinary members. NIR people would like to improve current NIR system to have better consistency with ordinary membership, so decided to have the discussion about NIR open to everyone. nir-discuss mailing list is also now open, everyone can subscribe and discuss about NIR. Please refer the following URL to subscribe it. http://www.apnic.net/lists/index.html Agenda for NIR meeting is to be decided through nir-discuss, while I have already got some application of presentation.
